What this covers

The Gems page on dentedprinter.com lets you design a gem in your browser and share it. There are no accounts. This page is run by Dented Printer, based in Ontario, Canada.

What stays in your browser

Your gem settings and which panels you have open are saved in your browser's local storage on this device, so your gem is still there next time. They are not sent to us unless you share a gem.

To remove them, clear this site's data in your browser settings.

What happens when the page loads

The page loads its 3D library from two public code services, cdnjs (Cloudflare) and jsDelivr. Like any web request, they receive your IP address and browser details when your browser fetches those files. Our web host, DreamHost, keeps standard access logs for about 7 days.

When you share a gem

Clicking Share Gem makes a 1200×630 preview picture in your browser and sends it, with the gem's settings, to our server. Nothing else is sent: no name, account, text or location. We store two small files (the picture and the settings) on DreamHost in the United States. The same settings always give the same link, so sharing the same gem twice doesn't store it twice.

To stop abuse, we count how many gems a connection shares per hour and per day. The counter is keyed by a one-way scrambled form of your IP address and deletes itself after an hour or a day.

Anyone who has the link can open the gem.

Short links

Share links are shortened with 4w1z.io, a link shortener that Dented Printer also runs. Our server sends 4w1z only the gem page's address and the gem's identifier, never anything about you. When someone opens the short link, 4w1z counts the visit in aggregate totals and forwards them to the gem; it sets no cookies and doesn't store visitors' IP addresses (its web host keeps standard access logs). See the 4w1z privacy notice.

If 4w1z is unavailable, you get the normal dentedprinter.com link instead.

How long shared gems are kept

• A shared gem that nobody opens for 30 days is deleted automatically. Opening its link keeps it.
• Its 4w1z short link is deleted with it, and that short address is never reused.
• Animated gems published by the site owner are kept until the owner removes them.
• Host backups may hold copies for about 9 days (database) or about 2 weeks (files) before they expire.

Because there are no accounts, we can't tell who shared a gem. If you want a shared gem removed sooner, email us the link and we'll delete it and its short link.

Your choices

Gem data is never sold, shared with advertisers or used to profile you. You can ask what we hold, ask for a correction or deletion, or complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (or your local data protection authority).
